The Last of Us is an ambitious project. In many ways it may be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious project to date – brand new universe and cast of characters, brand new tech, brand new genre, not to mention it’s easily the longest campaign Naughty Dog has ever made.
As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.
As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games – gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further – for ourselves, and most importantly, for you, our fans.
The extra wait will be very short and your patience will be rewarded. Update your calendars. You won’t even have to change seasons. The Last of Us will be available June 14th, 2013. Until then, know that we will be working extremely hard to deliver an experience that matches your high expectations.

Compared to The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5, BioShock Infinite, et al, this barely qualifies as a delay. However, it would be wise for them to hit his date because all the good will Naughty Dog has built up will quickly evaporate in this What Have You Done for Me Lately climate.

While dissapointing, you guys can take as long as you need to make this game as good as you can get it. Its not like you announced this game at launch of the PS3 and have spent the last 7 years fumbling about with a project and a few trailers *cough*Square Enix*cough*. ND has impressed, entertained, and amazed us with Uncharted 1-3 over the last 7 years and in my opinion already carried its weight for PS3. This project is what ever you guys want it to be and if you feel you need the time then you best take it. After all it is not like we don’t have games to hold us over until June, July, August, or September (though hopefully we won’t have to wait long). I can’t wait to get my copy and start playing this game and the wait will be worth it however extended.

This is a good idea. Don’t release it until it’s ready. I don’t think games should have actual release dates. Just say it will be out around this time. As you get close then give a date. Too many games are released and full of bugs when a few more weeks would have made them great.
